Scott Griffin is a Virginia Beach native with over 20 years of music teaching experience. He is married to his wife, Katie, and is a soon-to-be father. Having earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diesel Technology, Scott studied classical music theory and harmony with pianist Jeanette Winsor (Virginia Beach Chorale, Hardwick Chamber Ensemble). His formal teaching experience began after receiving multiple Mentor’s Honor Scholarships, serving as a Teacher Assistant and Tutor for Tidewater Community College’s music department. Scott also has had the continuing privilege of studying with the legendary 5-time Grammy Award-winning Bassist/Musician Victor Wooten in Nashville, Tennessee. This has provided Scott with firsthand experience of Victor’s exceptional musical knowledge and expertise. For the last 20 years, Scott has been a guitar and bass instructor at Alpha Music in Virginia Beach. He has obtained extensive knowledge not only with music but also with patience, empathy, and the ability to engage with kids on their level. In addition to teaching music, Scott holds a position within the Suffolk Public Schools system, serving as a K-12 substitute teacher. He is a member of and performs regularly with the Broadcast Church music team in Chesapeake, Virginia. Scott is an avid golfer in his free time and loves traveling, fishing, fossil hunting, and spending time at the family ranch.
