By the time Dawn was old enough to make her siblings sit and “play school,” she knew she was called to be a teacher, and she never wavered from that path. Dawn graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Secondary Educational Curriculum & Instruction and certifications in secondary math and English. After teaching all levels of math in a public high school in Texas and a private Christian high school in Virginia, she earned her M.A. in Education from Regent University. Although she planned to continue teaching high school indefinitely, the Lord directed her military family onto a different path. By the time her oldest child was ready to begin school, God had placed on her heart a desire to homeschool her children full-time. Her husband fully supported this idea, so she began homeschooling her oldest child in the year 2000 and has continued to homeschool all three of her children throughout their academic careers. In the meantime, Dawn has also taught logic, Latin, literature, and writing in various homeschool cooperatives, is a private math tutor, and has taught elementary-aged Sunday school for many years. Dawn is devoted to helping her students not just understand math but to help them think critically and “learn how to learn.” Her family joined the KEYS family in 2008, and with the exception of a one-year “break” after their oldest graduated, they have been a part of KEYS ever since. She is thrilled to be teaching math again and is especially happy to be teaching at KEYS. When she is not working with students or her own children, Dawn enjoys sewing and other needle-arts, going to the beach, walking, and spending time with her family.
