Sally Anne Groomes grew up in a family of ministers and missionaries in Kentucky horse country. She earned her B.A. with Honors in English Literature from the College of William & Mary in 2007, where she was a Mellon Fellow and Teaching Assistant. She then went on to Villanova University, where she obtained her M.A. in English Literature in 2009 and worked as a Writing Center tutor and Graduate Assistant. Throughout her studies, Sally Anne explored the intersection between faith and secular themes in the literary canon, with a particular emphasis on 19th-century transatlantic works. After completing her M.A., Sally Anne taught English and American Literature and composition at Keiser University and Ashford University (now the University of Arizona Global Campus). For the better part of the past 10 years, she stepped away from teaching to raise her three young children (while bouncing around the East Coast and the Caribbean, thanks to her husband’s Navy assignments!). During that time, she was a freelance writer, taught in a “one-room schoolhouse” Pandemic Pod, and created and taught a high school enrichment seminar, “Literature and the Word.” In her free time, she enjoys competitive distance running, reading, and exploring her new town with family and friends.
